The August 4th primary election.
A primary is mostly where each political party narrows its field. Voters registered with a party choose which candidates move on to the November ballot. This year there’s an important exception: a proposed amendment is also on the August ballot, and every registered voter, including unaffiliated voters, can vote on it, not just those registered with a party.
The November 3rd general election.
This is where the primary winners face off. It’s a “midterm” year, and Kansans will decide a full slate of offices, including Governor, a U.S. Senate seat, all four of Kansas’s U.S. House seats, and all 125 seats in the Kansas House of Representatives, along with other statewide and local races.

Request a Mail-In (Advance) Ballot
You can request a mail-in ballot anytime at KSVotes.org, up to 7 days before an election. Election offices will start mailing ballots on July 15 and will continue mailing them on a rolling basis as requests come in.
You can check the status of your ballot at the KS Secretary of State’s VoterView website.
Voter Registration Deadline
The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, July 14, 2026 if you want to participate in the August 4 primary election. Check your registration at KSVotes.org.
FUN FACT: In Kansas, the voter registration deadline is always 21 days before an election.
Early Voting Starts
Early voting in person can begin as early as July 15, but most offices will wait a bit. Check KSBallot.org for specific times and locations, or visit the Secretary of State’s website.
Last Day of Early Voting
You can still vote early on Monday before Election Day if you get there before noon!
Election Day
Polling places are guaranteed to be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and a handful of counties offer extended hours. Double check your polling location at KSBallot.org, or at the Secretary of State’s VoterView site
If you have an advance ballot you need to return it by 7:00 p.m. on election day, either at your polling location, a ballot drop box, or your county election office.
