In August, Kansans will vote on proposed changes to the state Supreme Court selection process

Kansas currently uses a bipartisan, merit-based selection process to appoint justices to our state Supreme Court. The proposed constitutional amendment would require justices to run in partisan elections to win a seat on the state Supreme Court.

The Full Voting Cycle

Kansas voters engage in different election cycles depending on your district. Municipal primaries occur in August of odd-numbered years, while state and federal primaries happen in even years. General elections fall on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Voter registration, mail ballot requests, and early voting windows align with each cycle.

Request a Mail-In (Absentee) Ballot

A mail ballot can generally be requested anytime up to 7 days before an election and gets mailed about 20 days before an election.
New in 2026: Mail ballots must be received by your county election office or polling place by close of polls on Election Day.

For the Primary Election on August 4, 2026, the voter registration deadline is July 14, 2026. Check your registration or get registered at KSVotes.org.

First day of advance voting. Advance mail ballots will start hitting mailboxes. In-person advance voting may begin. Check with your county election office for specific times and locations.

Early Voting (In-Person Advance Voting) Begins Statewide

Early in-person voting is available statewide from July 28, 2026 for the Primary Election. Depending on your county, you may also find satellite locations with extended hours.
